Questions about Tinytag Wireless Data Logger system.

I've Lost/Don't Have an Activation Code for my Radio Version of Tinytag Explorer.

If you have lost or misplaced the activation code for the radio version of Tinytag Explorer, please contact Gemini Technical Support on +44 (0)1243 813009 or e-mail help@tinytag.info.

Why Isn't the Radio Receiver Icon Showing in Tinytag Explorer?

When setting up a radio system for the first time the Tinytag Explorer software should automatically detect the radio receiver.

If the radio receiver icon doesn't appear in the radio navigation pane, first check that it is plugged in correctly and switched on.

If the receiver still doesn't appear, and this may take a few moments, check the USB receiver cable has installed correctly by going to the Device Manager on the computer and checking the Ports entry, the cable should be listed there with a "com" number.

If the cable is not listed, look for an Unknown Device with a yellow question mark next to it (this will probably be labelled "Gemini USB serial cable" or similar).

Right click on the entry and select the Update Driver option (this should start a hardware wizard running).

The first page will ask you if Windows can search the internet or Windows Update for drivers, select the No, not this time option and click Next.

On the following page select the Automatic installation option and click Next (if you are running Windows Vista or Windows 7 you may be prompted to confirm your agreement to the installation).

Once the cable drivers have been installed, click Finish.

If the device is still listed with a yellow question mark against it, repeat the above process once again to set the device up as a COM port.

When you have gone through this a second time, the device should move to the Ports section of the Device Manager where it will be listed with a COM port number.

Tinytag Explorer should now pick up the receiver automatically, but if it doesn't go to Options and Communication Options, select the Tinytag Radio tab and then the Configure Receiver option.  Next select the Master Gateway option and on the next screen select the correct communication port from the list displayed (then click Next twice and Finish to complete the setup).

Please Note: It may take a few minutes for the Receiver to appear once the correct port has been selected.

If the Receiver Icon doesn't appear after trying the above, please contact Gemini Technical Support on +44 (0)1243 813009 or e-mail help@tinytag.info.

How Do I Send Alarm E-Mail Warnings From The Radio System?

The Tinytag radio system can be configured to send warning e-mails when preset alarm limits, programmed into the radio data loggers by the user, are breached.

To set an e-mail address, the customer needs to go to Options >> Communication Options, select the Tinytag Radio tab and then the Configure Receiver option.  In the Alarm Notifications tab the user then needs to enter the address of the e-mail server they are sending through, and the e-mail address itself (there is also an option to send reminder e-mails every 24 hours if the alarms are not cleared by a user in the meantime).

Please Note: E-mail server addresses need to be entered by someone with Administrator access rights, this cannot be set by someone with basic User access.

What is the Difference Between Using Alkaline and Lithium Batteries in Radio Data Loggers?

Tinytag radio data loggers can be supplied with either alkaline or lithium batteries.

The advantage of using alkaline batteries is that they are cheaper and commonly available.

The advantage of lithium batteries is that they operate over a wider temperature range and have a longer life.

Units that support alkaline batteries are shipped with batteries fitted, but because of restrictions placed on the shipment of lithium batteries we have to ship lithium powered units without batteries.

Suitable lithium C cells can be purchased worldwide from RS using their part number 201-9450.

For further information on battery life and alternative cell types, please see our radio logger data sheets.

Can I Use My Own PT100 or PT1000 Probe?

Yes, third party PT100 and PT1000 probes can be connected to our radio loggers as described here: Using Your Own PT100 or PT1000 Sensor.
