How To Use Your TinyTag Data Logger

Content

Retrieval - Getting Data from Logger

To get the data from your logger, first connect the logger to your PC using the USB cable (as described in 'Installation')

Once the logger has been recognised by your PC, stop the logger by clicking the 'Stop' icon at the top of the screen, or go to Logger > Stop.

You can now download the collected data from the logger. Click the 'Get Data' icon at the top of the screen, or go to Logger > Get Data.

You can also view the current readings being taken from the logger by clicking the 'Current Readings' icon at the top of the screen, or by going to Logger > Current Readings. This will bring up a pop-up window with the current readings from the logger, which will be refreshed regularly.

(Note: the logger does not have to be stopped to download the data if it is recording in minutes mode, however if it is recording in seconds mode, the logger must be stopped first. If you do not stop the logger before attempting download in seconds mode, you will be prompted to do so before download takes place)

Retrieval - Viewing Data in Tinytag Explorer

When you download the data ('Get Data'), it is initially displayed as a graph, in Graph view, however there are 3 other ways of viewing the data. These are InformationTable of Readings and Daily Min/Max.

You can change many aspects of the Graph View, such as the units preferences and the colour of the traces. To do this, right click on the graph view and select 'Units Preferences' to change the units, or 'Graph Configuration' to change the colour of the traces, or the name or scale of the axes. You can also Top/Tail the Graph; that is, choose an area of the graph that you want to display, and 'mask' the rest. To do this, select the area you want to keep (press and hold the left mouse button and drag a box around the required area). Then, right click on the graph and select 'Top/Tail', or go to View > Top/Tail. This can easily be undone by right-clicking on the graph area and selecting 'Top/Tail' again.

Retrieval - Viewing Data in Tinytag Explorer

To view the Information, go to View > Information. This view provides you with statistics from the logging duration, such as 'Maximum Reading', 'Mininum Reading', 'Average Reading', 'Logging Started', 'Logging Ended', etc.

To view the Table of Readings, go to View > Table of Readings. This displays every reading the logger has taken over the measuring interval for each channel it was measuring, and the time each reading was taken.

To view the Daily Min/Max, go to View > Daily Min/Max. This view shows the maximum and minimum readings taken on each channel for each day the logger has been running. (If the logger was running for less than one day, this view will show only one minimum and one maximum reading for each channel).

Retrieval - Saving and Exporting Data

The data (downloaded from each logger) can be can be easily saved by clicking on the Save icon. In the box that appears, select where you wish to save your data, type in a file name
and click Save.

The data can be also exported in each of the views described previously (Retrieval - View Data)

Select the data view you wish to export, then go to File > Export. For Graph View, this will say Export - Graph, and can be saved as a .png or a .bmp image file. For all other views, it will say Export - All Cells (or Export - Selected Cells if you highlight a selection) and can be saved as an Excel Spreadsheet (.xml or .xls), a Comma Separated File or a Tab Separated File (the .txt and the .csv file formats can both be saved with or without units).

Note: if you have applied a Top/Tail to the graph, the data that has been masked will not appear in the 'Table of Readings', and also not contribute to the Average Readings in 'Information View' or 'Daily Max/Min'. If you wish all data to be included in these views, remove the Top/Tail (as described in the previous section).
