Data loggers are used throughout the food industry where it is critical that temperatures are accurately maintained at specified levels and recorded for ongoing documentation, verification and validation. Loggers are used throughout the cold chain to help ensure compliance with industry-wide environmental, health and safety regulations including HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) measures.

The BS EN 12830:1999 European Standard specifies the technical and functional characteristics of air temperature recorders for equipping the means used for the transport, storage and distribution of chilled, frozen and deep-frozen/quick-frozen food and ice cream. It specifies the test methods which allow the determination of the equipment's conformity to suitability and performance requirements. It applies to the whole recorder-temperature sensors(s). The temperature sensor(s) may be integrated into the recorder - data loggers with built-in sensors; or remote from it - data loggers with probes.

The Tinytag View 2 (TV-4020) and Transit 2 (TG-4080, TG-4081) temperature data loggers are BS EN 12830:1999 compliant to meet the demands of the frozen and chilled foods storage and transportation industries. To become accredited, the loggers were required to go through various validity tests, which verified all of their stated specifications. An independent report was satisfied that all of the conditions had been met.

The Tinytag Transit 2 data logger is very popular for use in the food industry, measuring temperatures from -40 to +70°C using a built-in sensor. Cost-effective and lightweight, it has a slim line design and can be placed unobtrusively next to items in storage and transit as required. It has a splash-proof (IP54) case in either yellow or grey, and has a red flashing LED which activates if temperatures fall outside the user-defined range.

Recorded data is downloaded to a PC, where it is presented initially in graphs and tables in the Tinytag Explorer Software. It can easily be exported to popular software packages and results from separate logging runs can be combined for comparison and analysis. The Transit 2 is very quick and easy to use with the Tinytag ACS-3030 inductive pad: simply place the logger on the pad to configure it, and offload data. If timing is important, this allows the data to be reviewed and verified quickly: similarly, when working with multiple units, a feature in the Tinytag Explorer Software allows the bulk offload of data from more than one logger at a time.

The Tinytag View 2 TV-4020 temperature logger is also BS EN 12830:1999 compliant. With a splash-proof case (IP65) it is ideal for use in chill cabinets and fridges for example. As well as recording data, the View 2 has an integral digital display to show current readings. It monitors temperatures from -40 to +125°C using one of our range of thermistor probes, making it ideal for awkward to reach areas or where a fast response time is required.

The digital display includes a flashing alarm icon, and an audible alarm box is also available as an option which will sound which if temperatures fall outside the user-defined limits.
